Alan W. Hounshell

I've been writing since I was thirteen. At fourteen, I submitted my first comedy skit to Saturday Night Live and received a very nice rejection letter. Life moved on, and somewhere along the way, so did my dream of becoming a writer.

Then, in my early thirties, that passion found me again when I became involved with a dinner theater production. Before long, I was writing dinner theater plays, comedy skits, and jotting down ideas for books. The dream I thought I'd left behind had never really gone away.

It took some time, but I eventually completed my first two novels under the pseudonym Cullen Kit Alexander. Since 2016, I've published about a book a year, now writing under my legal name, Alan Hounshell.

I grew up in Vancleve, a small community in Eastern Kentucky, where I was influenced by the people around me, my parents, and the politics and culture of the time. Saturday Night Live and the movies of the '70s and '80s helped shape my comedic side, igniting an imagination that has stayed with me ever since.

I've been married to my lovely wife since 1999, and we have four children. Our four cats—Binx, Midnight, Callie, and Copper—provide plenty of additional entertainment and balance to family life. We moved to Halls, Tennessee, in 2021, where we're enjoying life in the slower lane.

After thirty years in the mental health field, I recently retired and finally have the opportunity to devote more time to writing. Retirement has reminded me of something I first discovered as a thirteen-year-old with a dream: It's never too late to pursue what you love.
